Hockey wagering odds liked the Canadiens on Thursday against Philadelphia. The Montreal Canadiens were a -125 favorite in Game 3.  The Flyers led the Eastern Conference Finals two games to none as goaltender Michael Leighton has shut out Montreal in the first two games.  He was brilliant in Game #2, achieving 30 saves in the 3-0 win. Simon Gagne and Danny Briere scored power-play goals, and Ville Leino also scored for the Flyers in Game 2. Michael Leighton has a shutout streak of 165 minutes, 50 seconds. Leighton is making the big saves and Briere has been scoring the goals. “I’m just trying to ride the wave,” said Briere.

The Philadelphia Flyers have not claimed the Stanley Cup since 1975 but they are now very close having a opportunity to claim the title. If Leighton keeps on playing the way he has so far Philadelphia have a shot.  Some fans in Philadelphia are reminded of Bernie Parent, who achieved playoff shutouts one after the other in the 1970’s. “It’s an honor, but the win means more to me,” said Leighton. “But it could have been 3-1 and I’d be just as happy.”

Little appeared to be going right for the Montreal Canadiens in this series.  They couldn’t score vs. Leighton and they were unable to contain the Flyers on the power play. Philadelphia had two power play goals while Montreal was 0-for-4 in Game 2. Prior to Thursday’s bout, the Canadiens were 0-for-8 in the series. “We had some good chances, we competed, but the difference was the special teams,” said Canadiens head coach Jacques Martin. “We’ve got to do something,” Canadiens center Scott Gomez said. “We’ve got to create more in front, get our shots through.”

Those making a hockey bet should realize that Philadelphia have now won six consecutive playoff games for the first time since 1995. “The thing I like is that we all feel we haven’t played out best game yet, and we still have a lot to prove,” Briere said. “I think that’s a positive — that we still have more in the tank. We’ve been winning, but it’s not a fluke.” Philadelphia has never lost a series in their history when leading 2-0, triumphing all 16 times in that case.
